DAW takes over Spanish paint manufacturer, Ibersa
Ober-Ramstadt, February 12th, 2018 (DAW) – With effect from 1 January 2018, the German building paints manufacturer DAW SE acquired the Spanish family-owned company Ibérica de Revestimientos Grupo Emp (Ibersa) and its Portuguese subsidiary company, Universa. The acquisition of Ibersa is an important investment for the growth of DAW in the fifth largest European market for building paints and enamels.
Ibersa was founded in 1969 by Miguel Ángel Zabala del Rey and has its headquarters in Sariego in northern Spain, a community in the region of Oviedo (Asturias). The company develops, produces and sells decorative paints, industrial enamels and wood preserving products for the professional and private sectors. With about 170 employees, Ibersa achieved a turnover of 19 million euros in 2016. In 2011 Ibersa opened one of Europe's most modern production plants at its headquarters in Sariego with a total area of 30,000 square metres. Along with the production facility, a logistics warehouse, the research and development and the administration are located at Sariego. With its direct sales model, Ibersa has its own sales network with 67 sales points, operating throughout Spain and Portugal.
Caparol España, established in the Spanish market, and Ibersa will provide an holistic and complementary offer, covering a large segment of products and customers and increasing the presence on the Spanish and Portuguese markets. The existing structures of the two companies will retain their identity, while profiting from numerous synergies. These synergies result from more than 120 years of history at DAW, the innovation leader which is present in more than 37 countries, and from the competitive advantages due to the modern production facility, the innovative products tailored to the Spanish market and the distribution network of Ibersa.
Since January 2018, the management of the new DAW company has taken over Fernando Peña, who previously held managerial positions at DAW's head office in Ober-Ramstadt in southern Hesse and as managing director of Caparol España.
